Quote :
CM Punk, arguably the WWE's biggest star, appears to have retired from the company, has told bosses he is 'going home', being removed from future wrestling events and thanking fans for their 'support' on Twitter.

The wrestler has had numerous run-ins with the promotion's chairman Vince McMahon in the past and it seems an undisclosed straw broke the camel's back on Monday night, Punk – real name Phillip Jack Brooks – announced that he was going home ahead of an edition of weekly show RAW. Which is why Bryan was written in to replace Punk in the beginning segment of raw to set up Triple H vs Bryan at Wrestlemania 30.

Punk missed this scheduled appearance and also his next at a Smackdown event in Toledo, Ohio the following day, with his name having now been removed from all future events including Elimination Chamber on the WWE website.

This comes just weeks before the promotion's biggest annual event, Wrestlemania, which will take place in New Orleans on April 6

Furthermore, Punk has been sending out cryptic tweets to his followers the past week, culminating in the ominous "Thanks for all the support. Keep being you guys, it's pretty cool," which came on Monday night and was not in reference to any in-ring action.

The wrestler's contract with the WWE is due to expect in July and many believe he will not renew it, with Punk previously stating "everything is up in the air" amid fears he is battling injures and generally burning out.

we'll see. Punk seems to throw his toys out of the pram every so often, I'll be surprised if he doesn't appear at Mania.

I thought when I saw Raw that Bryan was written in due to the crowd support, and Punk maybe threw a strop at being replaced as I thought it was weird that he wasn't seen. It makes WWE look bad when they clearly had Punk involved in the Authority story with one of the biggest talking points being Punk being eliminated unfairly. I had a feeling Brock and Batista would face off, skipped some Raw so assume they might fight at EC, as Batista isn't needed in the EC match. If Punk was around I'd bet that Batista would get so pissed off with Brock he'd give up the title fight for revenge at WM.

Looks as though WWE now has an idea of Daniel Bryan facing Triple H at Mania and that could be what has ticked Punk off as it looks like he has gone from Royal Rumble winner (then Batista returned) to mid card. Who would he face if not Triple H? Lesnar is taken up by Taker by the looks, there wouldn't be much for him or anyone to face.

S.O.S call to The Rock to face CM Punk at Wrestlemania  taking th piss out o  Wonder how Punk would react.

Batista will face Del Rio at EC, Lesnar will have the PPV off as punishment for interfering in the Tag Titles rematch.

If Punk really did want to cause havoc though I'd have thought he'd have waited till after EC to walk out.

quick question. How long has WWE been doing the experimental bullshit mad fuck hyper camera work and editing. Producers have lost it. It actually made me feel ill.

Started when the shield debuted to try and portray anarchy, or something like that.

As for Punk, I think he'll take a few weeks off, then his ego will make him head back.

yeah, it's like watching Italian football with the producer cycling through camera angles, but with added terrible camera work. god it has to stop. Ruins WWE's main advantage of production value.

A bit, when Punk is good, he's one of if not the best around. However that level has been achieved less and less recently.

In honesty, I think I was more disappointed when Jeff Hardy left...

Well, Jeff had just cracked the main event bracket, had a blinding feud with Punk, and the possibilities for him were endless - he'd never had a lengthy run with HBK, Taker, Batista, Cena, Edge as a singles guy... all in top-line matches could have been awesome. instead, he finally made it, then walked away.

Punk on the other hand... is the longest reigning champ of the modern era. He's faced everyone there is. He's been heel, face, lead a stable... him missing a year or so, making WWE push the likes of Cesaro, Kofi, Roman Reigns, Langston... all new and fresh opponents for him in a year or so's time.

do you think he regrets campaigning to sign Bryan, now that he could take his spot. Fans obviously love Bryan, but WWE might be forced to use him more with no Punk. Or is Punk truly a martyr, guaranteeing a new Bryan push?

No. I think there were more people than just Punk wanting to sign Bryan - Punk is all about Punk. Always has been.

As we've noted this week, some of CM Punk's frustration had to do with being booked against Triple H in a match at WrestleMania XXX. Word is that Punk felt that a program with Triple H is not a "big feud and a big match" when he's stated numerous times that he wanted to main event the biggest show of the year.

Regarding Punk's future with WWE, it's said that Vince McMahon wants Punk back but Triple H has mixed feelings on the situation. Triple H reportedly feels disrespected by Punk but is letting Vince handle things.

Punk just seems to be a bit of nark to me. He spits his dummy out every time he doesn't get his own way but then if you look at his WWE career, every time he get over, his legs are cut out from underneath him. Straightedge Society, his feud with HHH and Kevin Nash after his amazing Money in the Bank match with Cena, when he first won the world title and lost the title without even competing. It must be frustrating.

I do think WWE will miss him if he has indeed left. I think its work personally.

If that's true what Punk said about a match with HHH, then I don't think Punk will win a world title for a while. Still funny though.

Interesting he kicks off (though he has been carrying injuries for a while) when his contract is nearly up.

Can see why he's upset over Mania, he has got himself in a position to main event Mania and is capable of an excellent match (especially against the right opponent).

Back around MITB with a new super contract I guess.

sign of the week: 'My other CM Punk sign got confiscated!'

Is every WWE event a fan protest these days?

Barely noticed any Punk chants this week. Clearly he's not the centre of the WWE world as he thinks.

Rumours are Punk or Lesnar will attack Christian and take his place in the Chamber, & Christian has apparently been told this.
